cleave to the Black, 2022
Echoing the art-historical tradition of the painted triptych, cleave to the BLACK is a three-screen video projection that offers a panoramic perspective on the legacies of the past that continue to leave an indelible mark on contemporary Black male experience.
Made in close dialogue with Black men from London communities, the work unfolds as collective memory and quiet, atmospheric poetry. cleave to the BLACK was commissioned by Film and Television Umbrella and Jerwood Arts as part of the Jerwood Award 2022.
